A Prince in Cape Town – young LGBT asylum seeker

A film by Jason Florio and Zane Dedlow for HIV/AIDS Alliance

A Prince in Cape Town: young LGBT asylum seeker

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people are often forced to flee their home country to escape discrimination and violence only to face an uncertain future as undocumented migrants with no access to healthcare services.

When they set me free, I was only seeing with one eye and my face was very swollen. The only thing I wanted was to see my mother, because I was thinking that I was going to die…I lied to her that it was robbers, because I did not want her to know that I was beaten because of being gay.  Prince January

Prince January shares his journey from Zimbabwe to Cape Town and his message of hope for the future.

The film was made for International HIV/AIDS Alliance and funded by the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
